Modern Warfare 2 set to be effectively neutered on PC.
We've all been looking forward to Modern Warfare 2's release later this year - after all, this is the game that topped as the number 1 action title of all time in the recent Hot 100 poll. But news out of the game's developer, Infinity Ward, over the weekend has PC fans raging.
The biggest gripe? No dedicated servers for MW2 on PC, which arguably kills dead the chance for any real competitive community to build around the game. Instead, the game will feature the IWnet service that both hosts matches itself, and matchmakes games to make sure you only play against similarly ranked players.
All this with the stated aim of essentially mirroring the console experience, to which we say, as PC fans, fuck you back, Infinity Ward.
Other changes coming in MW2 will also likely mean that third party modding - a PC staple that pretty much re-invented PC development in the last decade - will be impossible. Instead, IW has big plans for paid-for DLC.
It all leaves a very bad taste in my mouth, and makes me look forward to the release a lot less. What are your thoughts?
