Could Modern Warfare 2 be any worse on PC?

Essential Linkage: It appears the answer to that question is a resounding YES.

I really do feel Infinity Ward must have lost a bet with another developer. That's the only way I can make sense of the company's stubborn refusal to take on board the mass upset amongst the PC gaming community. Take, for instance, an online chat hosted by Best Buy in the US, featuring Mackey McCandlish and Ryan Lastimosa from Infinity Ward.

The chat was open for questions from all comers, and it was a brutal expose on just how dumbed down the MW2 experience will be on PC, compared to CoD4. Take this QA for example:

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

The mouse is a feature, now?! What. The. Fuck?!

The lads over at Ars Technica are just as outraged as us, and have a full story that is well worth reading.

Prepare to get your rage on.

CoD multiplayer has always blown dogs bollocks. At least this way IW is doing pc gamers a favour by telling them to play something worth your money/time/effort.

Stuff it. I was getting excited about good multiplayer and a cinematic single player campaign, and IW have the gall to do this? You just lost another customer, IW.

From the link: RE: mathcmaking "This was not a trivial undertaking, although it's understandable that these days consumers may take match match making for granted."

We dont want it, so why would we even take it for granted?

While the develpment team at IW are lounging on their chairs made from the bones of the innocent and drinking the tears of new borns, I'll be off playing something from a company that DOES give a damn.

Bloody poor form from IW after the awesome effort that was MW.

MANY LOLS

IW's website (the company site)
requires you to be over 18 to view.
Aparently they're a porn site now.

The kicker is:
once you have entered your DOB below 18..
you are blocked obviously...
but if you go back again, it remembers. :P

<3 teh nerdrage. I was hoping someone would piggyback the ACTA onto this to harness the backlash, but then I realised how much easier it is to infringe copyright on PC. Especially with dedicated servers.

I think it's more a case of favoring dev for consoles rather than PCs. The bit i don't really get is that favoring a platform generally leads to things being more cost effective to produce, yet still pretty much guaranteeing a decent amount of sales. I love PC. I have loads of games for it and generally like the feel of things. But MWF2 being a bit crap on PC is not going to stop me buying it. If you can't enjoy a game the way it's made than maybe it's simply not aimed at your type of playing style.

FPS on consoles sucks arse! I can deal with 3rd person games but I've palyed C0D4 and i sucked at it on the xbox.

I can't wait for pirates to hack the code and allow dedicated servers, console and everything else a pc fps should have. haha at mouse feature. to be honest, I'm not even going to waste my breath on this one. IW has really irked a lot of people.

if the pirates allow something like this, it will be the most pirated game ever because it's finally a pc game and not something they figured they "might as well".

Nov 6, 2009 4:24 PM
Its really rather said... If you think about - Developer makes console game for increased sales. Developer then makes hack attempt at PC version. PC version sucks balls, and PC sales reduce. Developer makes next game even more console focused because of reduce PC sales, but still makes PC version. New PC version sucks even more balls than a hooker on coke! New PC version sales reduce again... Cycle goes on and on... and soon no more PC sales or PC version.

Well that settles it. Battlefield BC2 for me. Sad to see that the total PC feature inclusion list comprises text chat, mouse control and graphics options.

But I think the whole: "We want you to play the game we designed..." excuse for not including a dev console killed it for me.

It amazes me that one of the most anticipated releases is one of the most crippled.
What A joke! I was happy to pay my money for the prestigue edition, then found it was scrapped for pc. so I had to order a ps3 or xbox version and effectively switch the games over then trade in the non pc version for a price of $80 when its a brand new game.
then all this crap came.
Glad I canceled now even though i felt defeated at the time.

Nov 7, 2009 8:19 PM
It's a funny issue I guess console is where the money is and PC is a secondary market of convenience only to them. The lack of proper support for the PC community only shrinks that market though so in a sense the problems can compound every generation of the game.

I have been hyped for MW2 since it was announced, so it's a shame they've decided for me what sort of playing experience I want. Luckily, I can still choose where my money goes. I'm buying Battlefield Bad Company instead.
.:Cyb3rGlitch:.
Nov 9, 2009 3:37 AM
Heh, I thought the same GhostFaceKilla. Buying the console version is worse, since it tells the developer that that particular market is more profitable.

The best thing to do is pretend it never exited.
12345
Nov 9, 2009 4:16 AM
then they will go one step further and stop selling the game through brick and mortar outlets and instead provide it online through pc (steam) and game consoles stores (PSN, xbox live). Increase the price and give some wank excuse why its even more expensive and just so we didnt understand that clearly enough increase the price for australians because we love paying a premium.

its a feature that you wont have that cd clutter up your lounge room and not for the reason that trading in games is cutting into profits.

I always thought a thriving FPS community relied on the community to extend on those ideas and longevity through new maps and mods created solely for the enjoyment of others.. guess i was wrong, IW knows better.

After all, pc users don't like that games are treated like consoles ports when released on that platform, so they took away your console screen cause it might upset you.

Nov 9, 2009 9:44 AM
I don't know what all the fuss is all about for you guys. For every one of the customers they lose cause you guys want a proper PC port they gain about three from the console market. I know a mate from work who plays COD on the console cause he cbf getting a decent computer. Its probably true for the majority of the population. Lets not mention that a console matching system is not a bad idea. I think its a logical way of building the game to higher revenues, which to be fair is the responsibility of the company to its shareholders.

Nov 9, 2009 11:15 AM
I just looked at EB Games web site, and the PC version is $98 while the XBOX 360 and PS3 version is $118. At least the PC version is cheaper ... and console users pay a $20 console tax.

Nov 9, 2009 11:14 PM
I still want to say that i primarily buy the COD games for the SP. And the COD games done by IW deliverd. If the SP campaign in MW2 is the shit then I will still most likely get the game.

Well... I thought I'd at least try the game in MP and see how it went. Here are my findings so far:
I was put in a match with people from Japan, Perth - Aus, New Zealand and a couple of other countries I didn't even recognize and there was obvious lag through out the game.
There have been level 3 players fighting against level 56 players.
You can't choose which side you're assigned to and you can't change teams either. I like the US and SAS but was forced to play as terrorist for 15 out of the 18 matches I've played so far.
The perks are fun and interesting but the graphics aren't as good as I expected (still nice though).
I'll be returning the game tomorrow for a refund as it's just not good online compared to the other FPS I've played.
Looking forward to BF Bad Company 2 and preying it's creators learn from Infinity Ward's fuck ups and release it with dedicated servers.

I read countless reviews saying that the single player is awesome and slightly offsets IW's massive BS. But they lied to me...

I bought this game a few days ago for PC and was treated to what I would give a 5/10 SP game with laggy matchmaking 5/10 MP. Quite simply the game lacks almost any kind of texture filtering, I mean all well and good that games arent about the graphics in the end. When you are given horrible pixelated sky boxes for the whole campaign and objects that look like they are just one color, you realise the graphics are actually worse than CoD4... and thats just sad.

If you really liked the great level design and the cinematic feeling of the first game, you wont find that here. Walk around a corner, pop, enemy appears right in front of you. Horrible parts where you are given no idea where to go and just have to walk around until you stumble onto it.

Simply, IW has taken a step back to bad level design and console love that CoD3 was remembered for.

I have two computers - 1 with 2gb DDR2, an E6850 CPU and a 4870 Graphics card. The game is VERY laggy but other games play fine!. My other computer has 4Gb DDR2, An E8500 CPU and two 8800gt's in SLI - the game plays at max resolution with NO lag at all. So, is it the game or the Graphics card? I think the card. Maybe ATI and Modern Warfare 2 don't mix.

The COD series has never really had much of a SP following on the PC. The game play is just way too linear... move this way, kill baddies, move up there, kill baddies, cinematic interval, kill more baddies and repeat. It was always the MP aspect that kept the game alive because on SERVERS people could set up favorite maps and game types and you actually had CHOICES. IW have taken away any choices thus ruining the game for the PC.

All the outrage of PC fans still hasn't stopped Modern Warfare 2 from becoming the most successful games launch of all time. Sure they could have had even bigger numbers if they did the PC right, but do you even need to these days ?

And now that everyone has experienced the sheer epic fail of the matchmaking system, COD:MW3 will be the biggest flop in history.
