Sorry guys - don't get too excited about Splinter Cell: Conviction just yet...
Grim news for game-maker Ubisoft. Looks like the GFC hit harder than the company was expecting, and larger than forecast losses are causing pushed back games and a refocus away from Nintendo DS titles.
Ubisift expects to lose about $US72 million from a projected profit of $US102 million for this fiscal year. Ouch.
"Against this backdrop and with a view to further reduce our exposure to the DS," said Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, "we intend to continue to refocus our development resources on our major franchises and on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the two consoles that are expected to see sales growth in games for gamers in 2010."
Most annoying for gamers, though, is the news that both R.U.S.E. and Splinter Cell: Conviction (which got readers excited yesterday) are being pushed back. Conviction is shifting from a February release to an April date, and Ubisoft's WW2 RTS is going back to the 2010-11 fiscal year. Bum.
