Command & Conquer 4 is in public beta

C&C4 is now offering fans everywhere a chance to get in on the action!

Command and Conquer 4, the fourth and final installment on the C&C series (as far as the RTS games are currently concerned), has recently been under closed private beta - but is now widely open to the public.

To gain access to the beta, just head over to Gamespot to create an account, then head to the C&C4 beta page to grab your key, of which thousands are supposedly posted each day.

While we have signed up for a key, we're waiting in-line like everyone else, as explained in this friendly message:

Thanks for your interest in the Command & Conquer 4 Open Beta. We're currently limiting the rate at which we're distributing keys, but we've just secured you a place in line. We'll display your key here when we release more keys in the coming days, and we'll be sure to notify you by email as well.

Still, for access to the game before launch this is a great way to get it, and even better is the preorder offer - you'll get an exclusive prequel mission called Night Moves, plus all the usual preorder goodies.

Get into it!

Seems like a pretty keen stunt to get people to get a taste of the game, hopefully to get some more players into it. Or inversely it might annoy more C&C fanatics into cancelling their orders. Time will tell I would iamgine.

All I can say is, it is Command and Conquer in name only. This C&C fan only sees the series go as far as C&C3, there was never any Tiberium Twilight.

I thought they were not going to make any more command and conquers??
Not that it matters, I will not buy it.

I want a decent resolution to the whole frakking Skrin thing and NO MORE MECHS.

God i hate RTS games that use mechs, even Supreme Commander was pushing it for me.

Open Public? Is this going to be a MMO game with online DRM control.

The preorder special is an extra mission? I guess you'll have to pay $10 to get it as DLC.

@count: Oh man I hear you. No serious military will ever use a war machine that has such a serious design flaw as legs.

Mechs look cool and you know it!

I'm honestly interested as to how this game will turn out. I don't think I'll bother downloading the beta though (secretly because I have a really shitty internet connection D: )
