Sid Meier's Civilization V coming this year, says 2K Games. Say goodbye to your lives, says us.

It's official - this southern spring, the lives of strategy gamers will effectively end as 2K Games releases the latest iteration of Sid Meier's masterpiece - Civilization V.

The new game's making a lot of changes to the base gameplay: the combat system has been totally revamped, leaders are now fully-animated and speak in their native tongues, and, perhaps the biggest change of all... the game is ditching squares in favour of hexes.

The game's also going to launch with extensive community and modding support - we like! Arguably less likeable is the announcement that Sid's team is also working on a version of Civ for Facebook.

'Cause, yeah, we really need to be wasting more time there. In the meantime, check out some screens of the game in our gallery.

That explains the recent bundling and price drop of CivIV on Steam.

Looks really good, especially those hex-map screens of pics 3 & 4.

by the look of the pics seems as if they changed combat system radically, doesn't look like you can have more than 1 unit on a tile, good change in my opinion.

Playing CIV (Geddit, Civ + IV = CIV) now.

Playing on a uber huge map, and have to alt-tab when AI is taking it's turn. Great game. I was wondering when they would make the move to hex tiles!

I have never played any of the the Civ's. So this game doesn't really interest me. But heres to hoping he decides to make another Pirates game.

You spelt Meier as "Mieir" in the subheading.

I would have figured hex would be a bad move, it reduced the number of adjacent movements for a square from 8 to 6.

I'm a fan too, so definitely looking forward to it.
-Sigh- I suppose it means I'll finally have to install Steam...
I don't think even Civ would be sufficient to induce me to type Facebook's URL into my address bar though.
