New Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine screenshots surface

Fresh off the press come new shots of Relic Entertainment's latest Warhammer game.

For fans of the Warhammer universe, there is little more thrilling than being offered a chance to step into the shoes of a Space Marine.

While Dawn of War 2 (and the predecessor) were great they are RTS games - so Relic Entertainment threw themselves back into the Warhammer realm to create Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, or WH40k:SM, for short.

There's no release date set for this game, but it's a third-person action RPG that not only looks set to give you a more intimate experience, but it's bringing that experience to the Xbox 360 and PS3 too.

Check out these two new screens of the game below:

In the words of THQ's PR team: "CHECK OUT THIS RAD SPACE MARINE SMASHING THIS ORK LIKE A DUDE IN A KEBAB STAND". Oh yeah, this looks epic.

Their PR didn't comment on this one, so here's our go: "CHECK OUT THIS MARINE SHOOTING STUFF WITH A MANLY GUN MADE OF STEAK AND BEER" Close enough?

We're waiting for more news about WH40k:SM, and hopefully will get some during E3 this year.

Hmmmm Ork kebab? Technically vegetarian. I wonder how the vegetarians would deal with fungus that wants to "chop der heds off 'n stuff"?

Given WH40K is woven so deeply with British sensibilities, I'd have gone "AWESOME MARINE DESTROYS ORK LIKE CHELSEA SUPPORTER AT A MAN. U. GAME"

But isn't the Marine wearing Chelsea colours?

Yeah. The Space Marine is like a Chelsea supporter.

Probably could've used a comma somewhere in there.

what are you talking about no British person plays for Chelsea...perhaps the space marine is a Pompey or Man City fan?

Thank the Emperor that the game is still pushing ahead as I haven't hard much about it since the last E3.

"SPACE MARINES ATTACK!!!!"

"Burn the Heretic! Kill the Mutant! Purge the Unclean!"

"Walk softly, and carry a big gun (made of steak and beer)"

"He who stands with me shall be my brother"

All great warhammer lines.

Sceptre, has your only contact with WH40K been through Relics RTS?

The flavour text accompanying the rule books used to rock my jocks.

My all time personal fave:

"Only the insane have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane."

Yeah pretty much, I'm not that much of a nerd.

"Foolish are those who fear nothing, yet claim to know everything. Brave are they who know everything yet fear nothing."

"Happiness is a delusion of the weak." - I love that one.

hector - "Only the insane have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane." - hells yes that was one of my faves too. Loved the supplemental stories and profiles, really added to the character of the game.

As I said way back when this was announced, the potential for this game ranges from FRIKKIN' SWEET to goddamn awful.

My desire for this game is that the player is able to follow the career of a Marine from Blood Claw (or Scout, if you're not a Puppies fan) to ... wherever. The beauty of it would be that your decisions in-game are judged by your superiors, and your career is decided by them.

So if you show courage and leadership, you might rise through the officer ranks; if you are a calm and precise shooter you might end up in the Long Fangs; if you are stealthy and independent you may be placed in the Scouts etc etc. Would really make for a good and believable experience, congruent with the universe so many of us have come to enjoy.

"There is less than one Adeptus Astartes for every world in the Imperium.

And yet, they are enough."

Man, when the 40k guys get it right, they really get it right. That quote actually gives me chills - cannot wait for this game.
