The Hobbit may begin filming in July

Great news for elf lords and Gandalf updates his website.

It may not be entirely official, but who's going to argue with an Istari?

Ian McKellen recently updated his website with a new entry on The Hobbit, in which he'll be reprising his role of Gandalf. Here's the goss:

THE HOBBIT's, two films, start shooting in New Zealand in July. Filming will take over a year. Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth.

The director Guillermo del Toro is now living in Wellington, close to the Jacksons' and the studio in Miramar.

Oh, Illuvatar, please let this be right!

Re-watch Hellboy 2 and then imagine the mind behind that playing in Tolkien's world.

I really can not wait to see how del Toro puts Middle Earth up on screen.

Nice countryside, the odd hairy moment with trolls, giant spiders and gobbos with a lovely town burning and dragon death to help round it off.
