Video: Warner Bros and Snowblind delve into Tolkien's Middle Earth.
If you pay any kind of attention around here, you'll know where massive Tolkien fans here at Atomic. Movies, books, you name it, but games... well, that's been a mixed bag. Hopefully, the just announced Lord of the Rings: War in the North, can change that.
Sure, there's the very good LotR MMO, but other than, gaming in Middle Earth has been pretty lacklustre. This one, however, has us excited. War in the North is going to be designed with co-op gameplay in mind, for up to three players online. It focuses on the vision of the movies, but will also feature locales and characters only seen in the books.
"In The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Snowblind will deliver an action RPG for core gamers featuring authentic narrative and environmental locations from J.R.R. Tolkien's original The Lord of the Rings," said Ryan Geithman, Founder and Studio Head of Snowblind Studios. "This game is a natural evolution of the acclaimed RPG gameplay that Snowblind has consistently delivered over the past years. Players and fans will experience an innovative approach to online co-op gameplay, woven throughout every facet of the game in a way that only Snowblind can deliver."
And though there's no gameplay yet, the trailer has us cautiously excited...
Hmm... Eagles. Though we do wonder why anything called War in the North seems to feature battles around Minas Tirith - though perhaps we're being a bit too picky. Expect the game on all major platforms some time in 2011.
