Battle.net to integrate with Facebook

The biggest name in gaming just added the biggest name in social networking to its friends list.

Are you sick of the endless requests from your Facebook pals to help them out in the latest Mafia Wars fight? Tired of hearing that your mate has a mess of spotted cows to give away on some stupid farming game? Well, we certainly, and soon we'll be able to be pissed off by friends requests from Koreans who've beaten three kinds of living shit out of us in Starcraft.

Blizzard announced today that its updated Battle.net service - soon to be integrated across all Blizzard games - will be tying into the social networking juggernought that is Facebook. To start, it'll just be to allows players in the Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty beta to add gamer friends via their Battle.net lists, but we figure this functionality will spread to Warcraft and likely to Diablo as well.

A lot of games already tie Achievements into Facebook updates (we're looking at you, Paul Houlihan!), so we expect Bliazzard will follow suit. "We're pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players," said Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment, in today's release. "This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together."

The Facebook functionality will go live in the near future via the Starcraft II beta.

GamerShots is currently doing something similar, in regards to connecting a player to their Facebook account. Here is an example, I drug some guildies on top of a screenshot which floats near their toons on the screenshot.

I am anxious to see how this works out once Blizzard implements it. If a player is concerned over privacy in addition to blocking the app they could always create an anonymouse gaming profile on facebook.

Missing a word there.

Bliazzard?

Anyway, I don't use Facebook. I disapprove of their terms and conditions required to sign up, and prefer my own blog and IM to keep in contact with friends.
