Battlefield Bad Company 2 to get major update

Video EA and DICE announce a new multiplayer mode for Bad Company 2.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is about to get a new multiplayer mode, according to a recent announcement.

The new mode's called Onslaught, and will feature four player co-op gameplay. The mode will run on four existing maps - Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay - but they'll each be updated with new atmospherics, time of day and other features.

"We're thrilled to bring something new and fresh to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 while still keeping Battlefield's signature gameplay intact," Patrick Bach, Senior Producer at DICE, said in the announcement. "We want to consistently support the over 4 million fans playing the game with new ways to get into multiplayer and also challenge the elite players with new experiences to improve their performance online. Effective squad play is the key to success in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer and this new mode will provide players with a dedicated environment to test their team skills and rank against the competition."

Annoyingly, however, Onslaught's only set to release on console in the near future. There's no news on a PC release. In the meantime, console fans can see what they'll be getting in the new trailer (while PC folk like us can just cry).

Typical, yet another developer & producer that is abandoning the PC gamer in favour of the console gamer. Just remember who the first gamers in the world were and the are still the most hardcore... PC Gamers! And don't forget it.

I don't think we're abandoned - post the last major patch BC2 has become, in my opinion, THE PC-based first shooter. I think we'll get this eventually, but the fact is console is where the larger market is. You just can't afford to ignore that.

This has got nothing to do with the consoles. The problem they are facing is how to handle dedicated servers.

The PC version is doing just fine:

I play the xbox version and I still don't think they've fixed the weapon balance that PC gamers got on the last patch. Maybe consolers will get that when PC's get the new multiplayer mode?

Yeah, but consoles do outnumber us two to one, and are easier to roll this stuff out on to - thus my statement about us getting it eventually :)

Perhaps they should consentrate on fixing some of the bugs in the multiplayer game + the punkbuster issues.

I have to say, whilst it'd be nice to have, I honestly have zero desire to kill bots.

There are a few very basic (but important) broken functions that are still being ignored. The favourites function and friend request function has never worked correctly and there’s no end of match total score with a winner and looser displayed on the same screen (desperately needed for scrims). When simple yet important things like that get ignored, it really shows that PC gamers have been pushed to the back of the brown nose line.
I miss the BF2 days where 64 soldiers went head to head on enormous maps for hours at a time.

Pc gamers are only getting left behind due to that the devs/publishers dont have a store to distribute dlc content correctly where as the consoles have psn store and live store. Iam aware there is the EA store but for ppl who have the steam copy that wouldnt work. so who knows whats gunnu happen. There is so many titles these days on pc that dotn have the same if not any dlc as apose to console eg nfs shift and burnout paradise to name a few.

Bad Company 2's biggest problem is that it doesn't have enough maps. The fact this new game mode doesn't include any new maps means it really doesn't matter.
