Video: Shogun 2 Total War to conquer PC strategy gamers next year. Hai! UPDATED - now with trailer!
Huge news today for fans of the Total War series - next year will see the popular strategy franchise return to is samurai roots with the release of Shogun 2 Total War.
The new game will be a fully 3D return to glory, with fully rendered land and sea battles, a huge campaign map, and even a whole new AI engine. The new tactical brains behind the game will be inspired by in depth study of Sun Tzu's classic Art of War. Players will take on the role of a feudal Japanese Daimyo, or warlord, to unite Japan using military, economic and diplomatic power.
"Developing Shogun 2: Total War gives us the opportunity to use recent technology to portray one of history's most exciting civil wars." commented Mike Simpson, Creative Director at The Creative Assembly. "Ever since we developed Shogun: Total War 10 years ago, the team at The Creative Assembly has always dreamt of using our accumulated experience to revisit Total War in Feudal Japan."
And yes, in the interests of full journalistic disclosure, this does make us very happy in our baggy samurai pants.
UPDATE: We've just uploaded the first trailer for the new game. It's pretty much just a teaser, and features no real gameplay, but it's still enough to get us quite excited. But we are pretty tragic when it comes to the Total War series.
