Golden Eye is coming to the Wii

The game that made the N64 a must-have platform could be coming to the Wii. Yay? We're not so sure...

The rumoured remake of Golden Eye gets more leaks but the original UK developer Rare is out of the equation.

The game that sold a zillion N64's, and the only decent Bond game ever made, looks like it will be hitting the Wii. Anonymous sources at Gonintendo sent over an alleged Activision survey with mock ups of Daniel Craig's silhouette replacing the ageing Pierce Brosnan.

"Golden Eye for Nintendo 64 was the game that defined a genre. Now, after 13 years of gaming innovation, the legend is re-imagined," said the accompanying blurb. "Developed from the ground up for the Wii, Golden Eye takes advantage of the latest technology to deliver the same intense experience."

Even if this is fanboy plus Photoshop, something, somewhere is going on for Activision and Golden Eye. Activision registered the Goldeneyegame.com domain name a few months ago and put a request for CVs out last year looking for an animator on a Bond Franchise game.

Sadly the brilliant developer Rare confirmed it wouldn't be working on the title, so our hopes were dashed a little. But Rare never looked like a contender anyway. The Vole bought Rare in 2002 and has it lined up to produce a slew of Xbox Natal games.

What we'll probably get is a dodgy rebuild for Wii. If it does go to other consoles, it'll be a direct port and not rebuilt from the ground up to support the superior firepower of the PS3 and Xbox. More's the pity.

Shame RARE aren't working on it. But I for one am more optimistic about this!

I want to be optimistic about this. I know Tak will hate this game already but it could be good. I just feel it wont be sadly. No RARE worries me.

no RARE is a good thing though, only due to the fact that most of the key devs split from RARE before Nintendo sold them off to Microsoft.

now remakes tend to like putting new stuff in I hope this doesn't happen, just give the original a face lift that all

Didn't all the good Nintendo devs from Rare leave when the company sold out anyway?
