So Microsoft promises, so Microsoft eventually delivers - we just got our shiny new Xbox 360 slim. And here it is in all its unboxed glory!

Microsoft knows how to end a press conference on an up note. At its pre-E3 press conference last month in Los Angeles, the software and gaming publisher promised every journo in the audience a new Xbox slim - and ours showed up last week.

It really is a surprisingly sexy unit. Sleek angles and the glossy black finish make this a completely different beast to the original 360, and it even stands out from the far sexier update of the Elite package. It's significantly smaller, but feels heavier, too, thanks to the larger drive and added wireless networking gear.

Interestingly, power and AV ports feature different plug designs, which means you'll have to use the cabling included. Good move, given the likely power incompatibility between this new Xbox and older models.

We've not powered it up yet - that'll happen this weekend, we think... - but we have done a thorough gallery and unboxing courtesy of John Gillooly, who couldn't wait to get his sweaty hands on the new unit. So check it our pics, and if you already got a new slim, let us know what you think.

Yeah, that does seem a mighty oversight to me, too.

The Wireless runs great & connection speeds to the live servers are faster than anything my PC can reach via cable.

Downloaded a 500mb file in around 10 mins.

Don't think the absence of a blu ray drive is a big deal. They're pretty cheap now, and I don't think it would boost sales much.

I'm more interested in how the noise level is compared to the Elite/Pro, can we get a dB level test or something like that?

Is the hard-drive replaceable as in the PS3 internal drive? And even in the case of the original 360, swapping out the hdd was somewhat doable

"but feels heavier, too, thanks to the larger drive "

Umm... Let me get this straight, it has a larger capacity hdd right? Not a psychically bigger one.
So if I made a tiny liddle partition on my 500g drive, it would feel lighter?
Or maybe I can just delete everything off my external so I don't break a pinky carrying it.

@Alcoholic, But being a larger capacity disk wouldn't it have more physical parts in it to save data on so it being heavier would be accurate?

I'm not sure if I'm just missing the point you're trying to make but I think it looks sexy and I will be getting one :)
