Atomic Reactor #5 - now with more SEX!

Today we talk up the latest issue, and have a chat to the Australian Sex Party about the R18 rating for games, and the net filter.

The Reactor's powered up and ready to transmit for another Atomic podcast!

Issue 115's just gone on sale, so first up we touch on the coolest bits of the mag, but the real meat of today's 'cast is a chance to catch up with Fiona Patten and Huw Campbell of the Australian Sex Party. We talk about their hopes for the coming election, the stinky net filter that Julia Gillard has just backed, and the lack of an R18 rating for adult computer games.

And a mess more, including what's wrong with politics right now, and what else you can expect from the Party should you give them your all-important vote.

So get listening!

And as an added extra, Huw Campbell - and we're breaking some interesting news about him in the 'cast - will be checking out this article to answer any questions you might have. So get engaged with politics!

EXCLUSIVE Space Marine preview, including PC details. The complete history of Warhammer on the computer and on the tabletop. The hottest hardware, the newest games.

It's all Atomic, and it's ON SALE NOW.

I for one am glad that a political party is up to date with the times, unlike Gillard and Abbot.

Especially educating parents, the classification system and scrapping the filter.

Fiona sounds like someone you could chat to for hours. I agree with their views of the filter and state government.

I think for someone to play a Zombie game and then go and shoot a few is absurd. Zombies don't even exist. If you think they exist then you dont need an R18+ law, you need mental help.

Can Fiona Patten please clarify why anyone who believes in the benefits of democracy should vote for her party which has the platform "To bring about equal numbers of women in the Parliament through enabling the Federal Discrimination Act to have jurisdiction extending to political parties."

From where I'm standing, it seems to me that Fiona would like to suspend equal opportunity laws in order to propagate a 50/50 sex-based split.

Good lord - you left The Green Room.

Question duly passed on.

Currently the Sex Discrimination Act does not apply to political parties, as it doesn't even mention them. Potentially this means that were a party to discriminate, there would be no legal action one could take.

We'd like to extend the Sex Discrimination Act to include political parties.

We would also like to see many more women in the senate, and are running many nation wide, however, we are not attempting any legal changes to force this to happen.

A fair number of people I have spoken to need to be told of that point because the way you currently phrase that policy is that you want to enable 50/50 representation by enabling of the Sex Discrimination Act to apply to the political parties.

However, while application of the law makes fundamental sense to me (and I didn't know that it didn't apply to parties), the fundamental point is that your statement of 50/50 representation is a misnomer - the principle of democracy is that anyone can run as long as they meet the requirements and their presence in either of the Houses is determined not by the Sex Discrimination Act or parliamentary equalities committees but by the people in their electorates.

Apply the Act, by all means as a fundamental cornerstone of equal opportunity, but please don't strive for equal representation - you will alienate a fair number of people for whom this is a sticking point.
