Duke Nukem Forever - the game that won't die

The rumour mill has kicked into gear - someone pretty big might be finishing off Duke Nukem Forever.

First it's coming, then it's dead. Then it might be getting another lease on life, and then... it's dead again. Duke Nukem Forever's getting to the stage that if it's resurrected one more time it's going to have left the grave more times than Bill the Vampire on True Blood.

The latest in a long line of developers that might be trying to bring the game to shambling life is Gearbox, according to a news report on Kotaku. 'Sources' have apparently informed the game site that the same team who delivered FPS hit Borderlands are going to finish the ultimate in gaming vaporware.

Gearbox's head honcho, Randy Pitchford, was contacted, but he declined to comment, other than to say he will be able to clarify things at the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo.

So there you go. Duke Nukem Forever, still clinging grimly to life. If this game ever does come out, it better be good!

It still makes me angry how they've built so much DNF, and thrown it away every time to restart. Sure, it may not have been the best looking game ever, but the trailer for DNF released in about 2001 was one of the best I've ever seen. And even watching it today, it makes me want to play it, simply because it appeared exactly like how a modern Duke Nukem game should - bloody awesome fun. Maybe calling it DNF was tempting fate too much.

Always bet on Duke?

The game was never about graphics, I still have fun playing Duke 3d.

Not the best looking game?

You obviously haven't seen where they're up to with it. You must see these videos...

GFX aren't the BEST, but still look pretty up to date so far.

Those boss fights remind me of zelda.

"GFX aren't the BEST"
That's the reason it has been delayed 13 years.
They wanted to be the best in everything.

Well it really will be forever then.

They won't be able to keep up.

...which is what's happened time and time again, from the Quake II engine, to Unreal, to making their own engine, going back to unreal, etc. Would still have been a fun game.
