id's Rage gets a release date

id's next big thing, the FPS/vehicle combat game Rage finally gets a release date. But the wait's a long one...

Hot news hot from the hottest place in gaming at the moment - Quakecon! It's all Rage all the time over there, even on the iPhone, but the best news for fans of the upcoming FPS Rage is that it's just gotten a release date.

The date is September 16 next year, on all major platforms.

That's right - 13 months from now we can step into id's latest post-apocalyptic vision and tool around the wastes in cars and shooting stuff up in classic, old-school style. "RAGE will set the new standard for first-person shooters," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks (who owns id these days). "The awards and buzz coming out of E3, and at QuakeCon, shows that we've got a huge hit in the works with this game and we are really looking forward to getting it into everyone's hands."

For a taste of the game itself, check out our E3 preview.

Does Bethesda really own id, or are they both owned by the same parent company? That's the way I understood it.

Can't fucking wait for Rage. Whilst it may not be quite the vehicular combat game I'd hoped, I'm still excited. And at least they're being honest about the release date.

To be honest, I can't keep up with some of the recent movements of games companies.

And I wrote this at the airport!

Cars and guns. Coool.

Rather unrelated, but this sparked a memory of a long forgotten game. That Terminator FPS that was tense enough to cause major paranoia, yet slow enough to make a tortoise get bored and face plant into a bowl of ice cream and Skittles.
