Blizzard warns off Starcraft cheaters

Think you can get away with cheating, hacking, or otherwise exploiting your way to victory in Starcraft II? Think again...

If there's one thing that Blizzard hates, even more than reliable ship times for its titles, it's cheaters. And with the recent release of the long awaited Starcraft II, it's about to bring out the trusty banhammer once again.

Here's the message Blizzard wants to get out to cheaters, and shared with players today:

Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating in any form in Blizzard games very seriously, and that's no different for StarCraft II. If a StarCraft II player is found to be cheating or using hacks or modifications in any form, then as outlined in our end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net to play StarCraft II with his or her account.

Playing StarCraft II legitimately means playing with an unaltered game client. Doing otherwise violates our policies for Battle.net, and it goes against the spirit of fair play that all of our games are based on. We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats, or exploits. Suspensions and bans of players that have used or start using cheats and hacks will begin in the near future.

Frankly, we back Blizz 100 per cent on this. We like to beat games and gamers, of course - that's a healthy and very Atomic spirit of gamesmanship. But cheating totally invalidates the process, ruining both your experience and your opponent's.

Unless you're the kind of douche who likes that kind of griefing, in which case... we'll dance on your ban-notice.

Anyhoo, speaking of Starcraft II, since I've been roped into the Atomic invitational, I really should get some practice in. Ciao!

They said this about Wow too, it's a never ending battle and un-winnable. At best they can mitigate the number of violations and make public their stance against it but further than that exploitation of game mechanics or use of hacks will always exist, especially in the more popular games.

They recently reinitialized the 'warden' (blizzards anti hacking system) for StarCraft2. Which is their 'spyware'. It analysis memory use to see if any programs are running that it considers to be hacks.

Not a minute too late, considering there are map hacks and 'immortal warpin hacks from gateways' and other such things.

I very much doubt most higher ranked players would bother. As the cost will start to add up if you have to keep buying a new game each time. (and thus losing your old id)

Neatep you would be surprised, as I am, at how many players I know who have put their WoW accounts at risk of ban by using bots etc I'm talking guys who have clocked literally in the hundreds of days played, it happens, same with hacking and exploiting.
That's why they used to use Observers as referees in Starcraft 1 to stop exploiting and they still do.
