Galaxy fuse wireless with graphics in a GTX460 WHDI Edition card

Galaxy save you the hassle of purchasing two separate expansion cards in a clever space-saving idea.

Building a desktop rig may become slightly easier, thanks to the launch of a new graphics card from Galaxy that promises a fusion of wireless tech and graphics core - in the one board.

Called the Galaxy GTX460 WHDI Edition, this card takes a reference-clocked GF104 core and the standard complement of memory chips, but adds in a total of five wireless antennas alongside DVI, DisplayPort and mini-HDMI.

The wireless technology comes from wireless company AMIMON, and the combination of two technologies is described in the press release as providing "an uncompressed wireless PC-to-TV connection enabling consumers to view the entire content of their PC screen on their big screen TV"

WHDI support is a great choice as the standard for HD video streaming is backed by big players such as Samsung and Sony, and will let the graphics card communicate directly to large televisions. Interestingly the speed of the five antennas is described as having "no noticeable latency (less than one millisecond) making it an ideal solution for gaming."

Galaxy's GTX460, with an AMIMON wireless card stuck on. Looks sort of awesome with that many antennas!

Whether this is actually true in most situations is questionable, but there's certainly more than enough bandwidth in a PCIe 2.0 16x slot to allow both devices to function unrestricted. We assume the card can stream HD content at the same time as wirelessly connecting to a router for networking purposes, but the press release doesn't explicitly state that.

Pricing is unknown at this stage, though it is dated to launch in late october. Definitely one to watch for those small form factor fanatics out there!

yo dawg, I herd you like computing, so I put a computer inside your computer so you can compute while you compute.

It's bound to happen eventually!

I have always said: never trust a video card that has as many antenae as you have fingers on one hand. This card finally makes some sense of this saying.

it has more antennae than you have fingers on one hand.

I'm using a crummy usb wifi dongle on my main rig now because i don't have room for a standard network card anymore.

Although I'm a little supprised that a half height tv-tuner/wifi card didn't come out first.

I'll only get worried when it begins manipulating the antennae like limbs...

What the heck this sounds fantastic. You can just have your beastly PC translated into a TV. Saves Cash too. but you kind of wonder why they didn't come up with this earlier.

sounds great in theory, but what happens when the neighbors tune into your videocard's broadcast and start watching what your watching?

"Interestingly the speed of the five antennas is described as having "no noticeable latency (less than one millisecond) making it an ideal solution for gaming."

so does this mean you would need a capable monitor of less than one millisecond?

what a weird idea.

to geekyTalon, because early trail shows that if you were to be in between the PC and TV long enough, it would reduce u to quantum particles and suck u into a space/time vacuum reducing u to electrons producing u to whats called an optical phenomenon within the graphical apparatus therefore televising u to a visual transmitter.

The the particle receiver based on the moon was interfering with this commercial graphics apparatus, fearing that consumers would accidentally get teleported to their moon base, they have however eventually refined the technology to prevent such misfortune.

However if you were to play WOW long enough while sitting in between the PC and TV, you would forever be trapped in the WOW or 2nd Life or what ever tickles you fancies.

I think it's genius. But I wouldn't go another galaxy card again.

SparrowFart: Do you mean self toasting bread? Toast is the end result of heat applied to bread.
