Galaxy save you the hassle of purchasing two separate expansion cards in a clever space-saving idea.
Building a desktop rig may become slightly easier, thanks to the launch of a new graphics card from Galaxy that promises a fusion of wireless tech and graphics core - in the one board.
Called the Galaxy GTX460 WHDI Edition, this card takes a reference-clocked GF104 core and the standard complement of memory chips, but adds in a total of five wireless antennas alongside DVI, DisplayPort and mini-HDMI.
The wireless technology comes from wireless company AMIMON, and the combination of two technologies is described in the press release as providing "an uncompressed wireless PC-to-TV connection enabling consumers to view the entire content of their PC screen on their big screen TV"
WHDI support is a great choice as the standard for HD video streaming is backed by big players such as Samsung and Sony, and will let the graphics card communicate directly to large televisions. Interestingly the speed of the five antennas is described as having "no noticeable latency (less than one millisecond) making it an ideal solution for gaming."
Whether this is actually true in most situations is questionable, but there's certainly more than enough bandwidth in a PCIe 2.0 16x slot to allow both devices to function unrestricted. We assume the card can stream HD content at the same time as wirelessly connecting to a router for networking purposes, but the press release doesn't explicitly state that.
Pricing is unknown at this stage, though it is dated to launch in late october. Definitely one to watch for those small form factor fanatics out there!
