NVIDIA has released a ForceWare driver that allows GeForce 6600 cards to be run in SLI mode.

NVIDIA has released a ForceWare driver that allowed GeForce 6600 cards to be run in SLI mode.

NVIDIA's SLI technology allowed two graphics cards to be run in tandem for improved graphics performance.

“For the casual gamer who is looking to make the transition to NVIDIA SLI technology, today’s announcement means they can also make the jump to an SLI-ready PC and be assured of a viable graphics upgrade path in the future,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager of GeForce GPUs at NVIDIA in a statement.

The Release 75 ForceWare driver added SLI support to the installed base of over two million GeForce 6600 cards, NVIDIA said. The driver was available from www.nvidia.com/drivers.

The company has also announced lower priced nForce4 SLI motherboards to further encourage the adoption of SLI technology by the mainstream market .

NVIDIA said users would be able to buy an SLI-ready system for US$799. This provided an upgrade path that would allow casual gamers to easily add a second SLI-ready card at a later date, the company said in a statement.
