Have you ever wondered how the folks at Atomic go about the process of PC building? Follow our own Justin Robinson on his next epic build...
Our last building project, The Beast was... well, let's just call it over the top. If you need reminding, it was a quad-SLI setup powered by two six-core CPUs and so power hungry we had to cable tie a second PSU into the system.
If you were at the Sydney Unlocked event, you would have seen the awesomeness, and also seen just how temperamental that kind of system can be.
But The Beast was very much an experiment in going over the top; an exploration of finding out just where the cutting edge of desktop performance lies. As such, we call it a huge success - but you wouldn't really want to use it as your daily gaming machine.
But you don't want something stock, either. You want something unique, powerful, and beautifully constructed, but also reliable to always be there for a round of Starcraft or Bad Company 2. You want something a lot like what our Deputy, Justin Robinson, is building for his next home system, and that he's sharing a build log of on our forums.
Here's a taste of the effort he's going to with his new rig:
"I'm basically planning on watercooling everything bar the hdds (which I think is silly) and the chipset (which I'd like to, but chipset waterblocks are mega expensive!). The rough plan at this stage is to cut a 480mm mount for the rad at the top of the case, and a custom sidepanel window to show it all off. Still wondering what design to cut into the panel; but I've got a little time to think about it - left the dremel at work anyway >.<"
So if you want to follow the build log of a real system building pro, from the base spec list, to sourcing the coolest (literally) parts, head on over to our forums to follow the action. In the meantime, here's a little video he made to keep the log entertaining...
