Champions Online gets a new expansion. Yay?

Video: We'd almost forgotten about Champions Online - but Cryptic Studios apparently hasn't...

Here's the big question - is anyone still playing Champions Online? We're really not kidding when we say we'd nearly forgotten the game existed, so discovering that it's not only still going, but still supported is pretty impressive.

The thing that sparked all this shock and surprise is the trailer for the Demonflame expansion, which has not only reminded us of the game, but also pretty much every reason we stopped playing. So... yeah. Let's let the release do the pep-talking.

Demonflame follows Luther Black, a villain who used the awesome power of his DEMON organisation to initiate the Demonflame incident. With vile magic and human sacrifice, Luther created a burning tower that rose into the sky. Eventually, Luther's plan was foiled and the tower disappeared. Now, Black has taken a desperate gamble to re-create the Demonflame incident. If he succeeds, he may be able to open a portal to the Qliphothic realm and attain the apotheosis of unnatural power.

Okay, at least that 'Qliphothic realm' bit sounds cool. Anyhoo, watch the trailer.

Demonflame's available now for anyone still playing.

Not sure why I don't look in on it occasionally. Questing is the same as most other games, the cartoon world is appropriate, the crafting is a little lame (like most systems). I like building my powers.

But it has just fallen by the wayside.

Just got an email from Cryptic saying that Champions Online is going Free To Play early next year (beta starting 9th November). I'll give it a go then , wouldn't pay a sub for this but if it goes F2P I will give it a spin.
Looks like more and more MMO's are going F2P, seem to be the way to go and I like it!
