Video: There's another big military shooter on the horizon, but can Red River's more tactically involved gameplay separate it from the herd of similar games?

We're in two minds following a quick scan of this new trailer for the next Operation Flashpoint installment, Red River.

On the one hand, yeah, it's looking pretty sweet. There's wide open battlefields, a plot and setting firmly rooted in realpolitik, and a mess of ultra-modern weapons of war. But, on the other hand, it looks a lot like pretty much every other military shooter out there at the moment.

It's as if the entire genre is starting coalesce into a homogenous mass under its own weight.

Still, OpFLash has always given us some great moments of thrilling warfare with our mates - hopefully Red River can do the same.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River will be released on all major platforms next year. After watching the video, check out our gallery of in-engine screens.

Why doesnt Codemasters and Bohemia Interactive JUST MERGE!!!! Like in Operation FLashpoint Cold War Crisis where the combined 2 companies made a pwnage game that was raved by critics. I still dont know how this would beat ARMA 2.

Why would anyone in their right mind pick up this title considering the absolute disdain with which codemasters treated the (especially PC) community with Dragon Rising? Why would you pick this up on PC at all considering that Codemasters are on record as saying that the priority is the console experience?
