Friday Morning Links

We’re heading off to drink beer and avoid wearing santa hats for the afternoon. Try not to trash the place while we're gone!

The big news this week is that Jon Favreau will not be directing Iron Man 3. The man who made Marvel movies good has withdrawn for reasons unknown – and the internet is not impressed. This article sums up why we’re reserving judgement until a replacement is found.

But that’s not all the Marvel news we have for you. There’s also this teaser for Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Thor. Yes, the same Kenneth Branagh who made that four hour long version of Hamlet back in the 90’s. And you thought comic book movies weren’t taken seriously …

Not to be outdone, this week sees the release of this very big, very fat and very expensive book from DC Comics, which celebrates the company’s 75th Anniversary by taking a very in-depth look back at its history. It’s the ultimate last-minute Christmas present for the comic geek in your life.

And speaking of last-minute Christmas presents, Minecraft fans will love these Ts from ThinkGeek! You’ll want to move fast if you want one though – they’re selling like the proverbial hot cake.

In TV news, Community is continuing on its quest to feature more pop-culture references than The Simpsons, and more Star Trek alums than The Big Bang theory, this time by casting Star Trek: TNG’s LeVar Burton as himself. Cute move, show.

The fourth season of Torchwood will be a co-production with US cable channel Starz (yes, we know – but it’s better than SyFy). The result? A more American cast, now including Independence Day’s Bill Pullman and Dawn of The Dead’s Mekhi Phifer.

Video time! This one’s been doing the rounds, but that’s no reason for us to ignore it – it’s LEGO Black Ops, people! And for your final bit of Friday linky video fun for the year, here’s a Star Wars/Dr Who mash-up that we can’t help but admire, if only for the massive effort that went into creating it. Enjoy!

I should also point out that if you buy 75YODCC:TAOMM locally...you're a fool. A fool, I say!

@hectorbustsnuts And yet the linked story is from last week ... which is a bit random. Anyway, I'll cop to fact-checking on Christmas party day perhaps being a little haphazard - but just a bit.

Yeah, the panel discussion was last week, and was used to pimp the book, post-release, with author Levitz doing signings after.

Still waiting (hoping) there's a transcript of that lecture...Geoff Johns and Jim Lee rule.

(another book link for DC Comic/Jim Lee fans I can highly recommend: http://titanbooks.com/icons-the-dc-comics-and-wildstorm-art-of-jim-lee-3329/ )

Mmmmmm...Jim Lee art...*drools*
