The return of Friday afternoon links

It's nearly the end of the first working week of 2011, and we've got your usual dose of geeky bits and pieces to get you through to beer o'clock.

Ah nit-picking. Sure, it can suck all the fun out of watching television and movies, but sometimes turning off that inner voice is just too much like hard work. If you do indulge in the occasional factual rant, you can take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone. NASA does it too. In fact, they’ve released a list of the silliest sci-fi films they've seen. Yay for debunking everything!

Stan Lee, all-round legend and co-creator of everything from Spider Man to the Hulk, has got himself a star on Hollywood’s walk of fame – but what kind of company is he in? Newsarama takes a look at his new neighbours, with interesting results.

Do you like Star Wars? Do you like Blu Ray? Do you have a couple hundred bucks lying around? Then you will like September a real lot!

Next up, we've got a couple of bits of opinion for you to mull over on the weekend. SyFy Channel’s Blastr blog wonders whether spoilers are ruining Sci-Fi, and what you can do to avoid them (sadly, not much, short of avoiding everything online). And a British Waking The Dead actor suggests that the Beeb is spending too much on Doctor Who, to the detriment of other shows. We’re not sure we agree, given the Doctor brings in quite a few pennies, thus allowing more investment elsewhere, but see what you think.

Bad news just keeps coming for Stargate fans, with cancellations and turnarounds beign announced all over the place. Here are some thoughts from SGU Executive Producer Joseph Mallozi on the past, present and future of the franchise. And it’s not all bad news …

To be honest, he’re pretty satisfied with Andrew Garfield’s casting as the new Spiderman - he's likeable, and just a little bit geeky. Here’s a first look at the man himself as Peter Parker.

Finally, Inception mash-ups are nothing new, but this one pits last years big movie about messing with people’s minds with 2004’s big movie about messing with people’s minds, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. Sweet dreams ...

I'll be intersted to see what Autralian dollar price the Star Wars stuff ends up having. also, which eddition they are. Han Shoots First!!!

it seems internet downloads are to blame for Star Gates death. (as well as changing season and night of the week)

The reference to "The Beeb" had me thinking, why is Justin Beeber collecting Doctor Who causing problems, unless Justin is driving fans away from doctor who in horror of sharing an association. but then I see the comment was from "..a British Waking The Dead actor" so it can't be all that important.

lastly, spammers suck.

Agreed Dazerath, Stargate must live on!

If not, a new Star Trek series would be nice to keep my space fairing tv show lust alive.

Yay, I have the top 4 of NASA's good movie list and none of the bad list. I also have Blade Runner, could it be that I'm qualified to work for NASA. One can dream.

Damn didn't realise about Stargate, channel 10 didn't help the first season when they caned it after 3 or so episodes.
