Beyond Good and Evil gets a facelift

Video: The apparent classic is getting a touch-up and a re-release via console. Time to go 'woo!'?

Perhaps we didn't 'get it' at the time, but our memory of Beyond Good and Evil the first time around in 2003 was pretty... meh. We know it got a raft of awards, and that critics bled praise on the title, but for us... meh.

So we're kind of bemused that Ubisoft's doing that rarest of things - re-releasing the game, with a full HD makeover. Beyond Good and Evil HD (clever name, guys!) will also have new animations and textures, and will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network.

Which begins to suggest how such a thing will be possible - it's going to be as low a cost release as possible. That said, Ubi's already investing in a sequel (the game was always meant to be a trilogy), so that in particular will be interesting - though whether it's going to hit PC, however, is debatable. The original game was on all platforms, but we're getting the felling number two won't be.

Anyhoo, why listen to me, when you can watch a pretty (more or less...) video!

Beyond Good and Evil HD drops some time this quarter.

Ubi's already making money on BG&E on PC by selling the original, broken on current hardware version to nostalgics through Steam and GoG.

Since that version already has reasonably high res options, the impetus to release the HD version on PC would be low -- you just wouldn't notice that much of a difference.

Still, a patch fixing all the glitches would be damn appropriate right now.

First thing that came to mind when screenshots started popping up, was that it looked no different from the pc version.

Yea perhaps they originally crapped down the graphics for the consoles. I have a PC copy I still haven't got around to playing. How many people have way too many games than time to play?

Agreed, I own it on steam and it bugs out.

Here's some hints for making it run better:
