Some of us will be working tomorrow on a top-secret Atomic mission. The rest of you should start your weekend off right with linky magic.
Let’s kick things off with a trailer or two, shall we? Here are a couple for Japanese manga-rooted, live-action sci-fi movie Gantz. Hooray for electric blue goo and the naked people it makes!
And while we’re on the video kick, enjoy some behind-the-scenes footage from Sherlock Holmes 2. It’s not the Moffat-Gatiss BBC version we love, but it looks like fun nonetheless. Be warned: this is US Entertainment Tonight footage, so a big-headed toothy presenter may pop up at any moment. From the in-case-you-missed-it file, Anne Hathaway is going to be Catwoman in the next Batman movie, and fans seem unsure whether to be happy or sad. We personally like the girl with the giant facial features, so we’re cautiously optimistic.
And that Alien Prequel that’s been tossing around for a while now? It’s become Prometheus, “an original sci-fi epic”. What does that actually mean, you ask? Find out (a bit) more here, or feel free to wait until 2012 and be completely surprised.
Now for something completely different: we quite liked this AV Club debate about the use of meh and epic hyperbole!!! in cultural discussion. Which, we know, sounds a little dry, but anything that can so clearly articulate why we’re meh on meh gets an automatic epic win from us. See what we did there?
And because we’ve got a reading thing going on, here’s an excerpt from Catherine M. Valente’s Deathless. It should prove a pleasant way to kill a bit of time, especially for the fans of speculative fiction and/or Russian folk tales.
Whisky doesn’t perhaps fit into the usual scope of our Friday links, but we can’t help but be curious about how these bottles of Mackinlay’s are going to go down after nearly a century in minus 30 degree temperatures on Antarctica. Mmmm … icy.
Finally? A video. This one comes courtesy of everyone’s favourite (Sorry DH) Atomic person, one Mr. Justin Robinson, who – while he doesn’t star in it or even have anything to do with it – though you might find it a little bit of fun. Go! Watch!
