Crysis 2 demo announced - for Xbox only

Electronic Arts and Crytek joyfully announce a Crysis 2 demo - but it's an Xbox 360 exclusive...

Come January 26th - Australia Day, for those keeping track - gamers will be able to get their first take on the next iteration of Crytek's next-gen shooter, Crysis 2.

Yay, you might be thinking, but you'll only be continuing to say 'yay' if you're an Xbox 360 owner, as the demo is an Xbox exclusive, for Xboxb Live Gold subscribers. The demo will feature a single map - Skyline - and two game modes, Team Instant Action (basic team deathmatch) and Crash Site (where players fight it out to alien drop-pods).

“Crysis 2 offers a fresh, new take on multiplayer – one that will stand out and establish the game as a top contender in the first person shooter genre,” said Cevat Yerli, Crytek's CEO in today's release. “The Nanosuit gives gamers a sense of power they have yet to experience in any other shooter and having New York City as a backdrop will present a different type of playground with even more possibilities.”

The game will be out on all platforms on March 25 this year.

. . . Why does this keep happening (console demo but no PC demo)? I am legitimately curious / furious. Is the PC version so unpolished and broken they can't even release a single deathmatch map on PC yet? Are they scared we are going to find a way to maliciously pirate their demo? Lawsuits when our graphics cards melt?

I'm gonna call it now and predict Crytek will just follow in the footsteps of Infinity Ward. ie Build credibility on the PC platform then cash it in on consoles leaving the platform that launched them behind.

come on guys get over it, we all know too well the console is where the real money is.

Consider it lucky their even making the game for the PC, at least i know for certain that my PC will run this game on full settings without any hiccups, ...with an updated drivers anyway :/

You're kidding right? Crysis is a PC game and you think its lucky that it's being made for pc?
If anything, it should be lucky that console gamers are getting it.

I think your all forgetting the massive issues Crytek had with the effect of "piracy" on Crysis. I agree with we are lucky as pc players to be getting this game at all.

"Another aspect he admires about the consoles is the fact that it's harder to pirate on"... That might have been true at the time, but no longer. Now it's actually *easier* to pirate on consoles. eg. look at the "backup managers" here:

Me I'm not worried about the fact that the demo is on Xbox. but it's the fact that it's on consoles that irks me the most.

As for the ones saying we should count ourselves lucky, um I thought that it's just as easy if not easier to copy a game for a console than a PC.

On that not I am with eisbar and it's the console owners that should be thanking their lucky stars that their consoles finally have the hardware power to cope with a game of such a PC following.

Like my mate gives me stick about it, and I say it didn't start with consoles so it shouldn't be there.
So I guess it's the age of console ports.
