Crysis 2 minumum specs announced

The sequel to a game that spurred a thousand PC upgrades (figuratively speaking) has announced its minimum PC spec. So will Crysis 2 be the same?

Short answer... it doesn't look like it.

However, the long answer...

Well, here's the specs:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2 2GHz or better
  • Nvidia 8800 GT or higher
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Windows XP/Vista/7
  • 9 GB free hard disk space
  • Internet connection

We got these via one of those wonderfully long chains of information that only the information mega goat-track (it's a series of tubes!) can provide. Crytek released them in German on its Facebook page, the gang over at Gerforce.com translated it, and then Bit-tech reported it via VG247, and then our very own jdog posted it on the forums.

Which is where we spotted it, and now we're re-re-re-re... whatever, reposting it here.

But what's really interesting here is just how underwhelming those specs are. When Crysis came out, even the average enthusiast system had almost ZERO hope of running it. Now, the average enthusiast system should be able to, basically, piss it in.

These are minimum spec. There's a difference between something that will run it and something that will run it well.
It could turn out to be the new Metro 2033.

You'd be mad to run the game with those 'minimum' specs anyway. Besides who still has a 8800GT in their rig anyway??

Turns out those requirements may be false, Crytek have said that they haven't released any official system reqs yet.

how can this be posted on atomic? a place for Maximum power computing.
that's reasonable power computing spec right there.
do we need more magazines about reasonable power computing?

that being said, what's the recomended spec?

Wait - this is our fault now?!

no. just disapointed that a game that follows a Maximum Power Computing benchmark should, on initial spec, appear to be so reasonabley powered.

if anything is your fault, it's holding up a Maximum Powered minimum standard that even the game developers fail to maintain. you shame them.

To be honest many predicted (including myself) that the Specs of Crysis 2 would be quite low in comparision to the first one - the simple reason is that Number 2 is designed for consoles as well. And as long as games are going to be designed for cross platforms they are going to be designed with the minimum specs of the console in mind, not the PC. the only way we are going to get games that push the graphical boundaries again is if they are PC only (or at least PC only initially), and designed to utilise the PC's far superior hardware. And that just isnt going to happen in a cross platform market to any appreciable level.
