Homefront specs and PC specific details announced

It must be spec day, as THQ announces PC specs for Homefront, plus PC-exclusive in-game features. Dedicated servers and LAN play for the WIN.

THQ has just announced the full range of PC specs for its upcoming future shooter, Homefront, and it's looking like it'll be able to run well on most Atomican machines. So let's cut to the chase...

Minimum Spec

  • Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Shader Model 3.0 graphics card with 256MB of memory
  • NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS or ATI Radeon 1900XT
  • 10GB of free hard drive space

Recommended Spec

  • Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • Intel or AMD Quad Core 2 GHz+ CPU
  • 2 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce 260 or ATI Radeon 4850
  • 10 GB of free hard drive space

NVIDIA 3D Vision Recommended Spec

  • 3D Compatible NVIDIA GeForce 480/570 Series GPU
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit
  • 3D Vision-Ready Display
  • Intel Core i7 processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • 10GB of free hard drive space

Even that recommended spec looks well within the bounds of the average Atomic machine, based on last year's Atomican's Choice poll. But even more interesting than the specs are various PC-specific bits and bobs that PC gamers are going to get to play with.

First up, chopper control is going to be very interesting - rather than a one-control-scheme-fits-all approach, there'll be the option not only for 1st and 3rd person cockpit views, but also for three different control schemes based on user skill. Ace will deliver the best maneuverability, but will also be more complex, Veteran balances both aspects, while Rookie errs on the side of ease-of-use. There'll also be a practice mode so you can get used to vehicles outside of competitive play.

In other words, this is looking like the most PC-complete game we've seen released in years. Thankyou THQ, thankyou Kaos Studios, and thankyou Digital Extremes.

However, it's not all good news - sadly, the game's launch has been pushed back a week to March 17. But, frankly, it sounds worth waiting for.

Lan Play and Ded servers aren't going to make a shit game good or worth buying though.

Not that I'm saying Homefront will be shit.

frankly though, from the 16-bit era to present, i haven't come across a decent THQ distributed title.

I must admit my initially low expectations for the game have been raised watching Hawkeye playing some single player in the office the other week.

@xBomx - were Company of Heroes and Dawn of War aberrations (just as examples)? Mmmmm.

@Hawkeye - the game is looking interesting. I am hoping that the overall feel of the game is reasonably 'mature' - and by that I mean a decent storyline and decent gameplay and game design that enhances the story. I am cautiously optimistic ( and my 15 year old is surprisingly interested as well).

On a nother note I am starting to regret my decision to not get a quad core CPU when I did my last build (12 months ago) opting instead for a dual core e8500, figuring that there wasnt much on the market that would necessitate the need for a quad. While I was correct to a degree I was only correct to a degree. The quad would have given me more future proofing (something I had stopped thinking about) because as it is the e8500 is posing a huge bottleneck on my system and is hobbling my GTX 480. Oh well lesson learnt. Dont skimp on the CPU. And think of the future.
