Crysis 2 - NOT the specs you were looking for

So yesterday's spec announcement for the upcoming Crysis 2 is not apparently correct - it may yet have the beastly requirements we're hoping for.

Yesterday we announced a very reasonably (possibly, too reasonable!) set of minimum specs for Crysis 2 on PC. The news was met with a combined 'Whoo!' from those who were happy to see that their lower-specced machines might be able to cope with the game, and a mighty "Wha?' from those who were really hoping for a gruntier sequel to Crysis.

And now, it looks as though those specs, despite being released on Crytek's Facebook page, or not correct, nor official.

According to a post on the official MyCrysis forums, "These minimum specs are not official or final, we'll have an announcement about this soon. Please note if you didn't hear it from me/see it on MyCrysis, then it's not official." This was posted by user Cry-Tom, and spotted by the Atomican-who-doesn't-sleep, Nukejockey, some time very early this morning.

So there you go - it might just break our machines yet!

As I said in the PC thread, why bother to Deny the last set of reqs when they're identical to the ones just released on EAs blog?

Of course, the specs from an EA game wouldn't be complete without listing the Internet connection required for DRM... boo.

Doesn't look like this is going to be anything special at this point. Homefront will likely be a better PC game.

It seems totally normal for me to have low specs for the minimal requirements of this game.
Remember that it is suppose to run on aging consoles as well so it would have been a shame if minimum requirements were the Beast PC. That would have mean really bad optimization of the PC code.

The more interesting will be the specs needed to run it with maximum settings!

If I remember correctly, I have read that the devs would put a surprise in the engine for enthusiast PC gamers. I think I saw that just once in an interview (may be in Atomic).
Since that, I am wondering if there will be a kind of ultra graphics mode where everything needs to be ray-traced in real time :) .
That would be hard for most GPUs.

I still can not remember if the engine surprise was for the new cryEngine or the new IdTech ... Did anyone read that interview too?

Odd..
The word "Systemvoraussetzungen" simply means System Requirements - NOT minimum specs..
Thus, it's hardly a surprise the info given was a bit out-of-whack ;)

It's quickly coming to the point where an OC'ed Q6600 just doesn't cut it for gaming where just a few months ago it was quite comfortable running Starcraft 2 with just about all the bells and whistles.

min spec should read i7 980x or Phenom II x6 1100T 12GBs ram nVidia GF580 or ATI HD6990 20GB HDD space and 1GB internet windows7 or server 2k8 + SP1
