Well, this is odd. What do you call a western game without the western? Apparently, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, according to Ubisoft.
We didn't really think much of Call of Juarez, and its sequel, Bound in Blood, was much of the same. It was a more or less lame collection of western tropes mixed up with poor game UI and controls. Now, it looks like the third game in the series is going to be a (possibly lame) collection of western tropes wearing a biker jacket.
Call of Juarez: The Cartel, is set in the modern day.
Uh... yeah. “The game will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot”, said Caroline Stevens, EMEA Brand Director at Ubisoft, in a release that yee-hawed into our inbox this morning and shot the place up. We're not sure if this is a bold move, or one of desperation that springs out of a contractual obligation to deliver a third game, but it sure is... interesting.
So there you go - mount up those Harley's and get ready to kick some narco-baron butt. The Cartel will kneecap all major platforms some time in the middle of this year.
