The next installment of Ubisoft’s WWII flight sim is almost ready for launch, and we have the details.
Fancy spending a few (or many, many more) hours high in the skies above Britain, shooting down Germans and other various enemy combatants, in one of a bunch of historically accurate and highly detailed fighter planes? Well, IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover may be the flight sim for you, and today Ubisoft have announced that it’ll be hitting shelves for PC in late March.
Developer 1C: Maddox Games claim to have put thousands of hours of research and development into Cliffs of Dover, and are promising a whole swag of new aircraft, including over a dozen playable English, German and Italian aircraft and thirteen additional non-playable AI-controlled craft, so enemy planes feel as authentic as yours do. All the action takes place over a huge and detailed area including England, France and Belgium, with much care put into recreating 1940’s locations and strategic targets as accurately as possible.
Cliffs of Dover promises an extensive single player campaign, where you join the Brits in taking down German forces, a whole range of multiplayer modes - from one-on-one deathmatches to huge epic 128-person battles - and an interactive training program to get newbies up to speed. There’s also customizable difficulty levels, so that said newbies can get into the game while still learning the ropes.
And, of course, because this is Ubisoft, there’s a Collector’s Edition as well. This one features a cloth pilot escape map, a replica of the pilot’s notes on the Spitfire 1 Aircraft, and a ring binder holding 150 pages of flight instructions.
We didn’t get system requirements from Ubisoft, but according to the official 1C forums, you’ll want the following at a minimum:
If your system’s up to it, and you don’t mind mentioning the war, IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover takes off on March 24.
