LA Noire: what will pre-order get you?

Your chance to detective it up in 1940's LA is still a couple of months off, but Rockstar has filled us in on the pre-order incentives out there.

There’s no denying that Rockstar’s latest release is a pretty big departure from their usual style. LA Noire is being pitched as a game more about actual detective work – and the problem-solving and decision-making that entails – rather than the shoot-first-don’t-bother-with-questions insanity of their past blockbusters.

And they’re taking a similarly different approach to their range of pre-order incentives they’re offering, focusing almost entirely on additional in-game content instead of the usual memorabilia offers.

Each of the three big Australian retailers get their own inventive packages, so it’s really about choosing what matters most to you (or taking a punt and hoping that the options you don’t choose end up as DLC down the track).

EB’s offering includes an additional vice case, ‘The Naked City’ in which your detective investigates the ‘suicide’ of a fashion model, as well as something called the ‘Badge Pursuit Challenge’ which sees 20 badges hidden through the game. Each one gets you bonus XP points and collecting them all unlocks additional ammo for all your weapons.

Pre-order through JB HiFi and get ‘A Slip of the Tongue’ – a traffic case come massive fraud racket. You’ll also get an ‘LA Noire inspired soundtrack’, although we don’t quite know what that involves yet.

And finally, Game will throw in something called ‘The Sharpshooter’ Detective Suit, which enhances your aim with the various firearms you’ll have in your possession through out the game.

So the choice is yours: bonus cases, soundtracks, potential XP or additional skills. Choose wisely, budding detective …

ditto that, Bastard Child.......

The thing is, those "pre-order incentives" are actually things which I would really be willing to pay for in DLC down the road [the cases in particular]. However I feel about these things as I do with launch DLC, it should be in the game I am already paying for. And retailer exclusives are just a turn off for me, and quite a disgusting trend when you analyse it.
Here, we have bricks and mortar retailers struggling against online digital distribution. So instead of being more competitive with their prices, they instead put the burden onto the developers to leave stuff out of the game. Oh, and it will be unlocked for you if you buy the game from them.
So, blackmale is the new strategy it seems?

LOL. You had it until the end. I agree though, it's kinda disappointing to miss out on some of the gameplay because you didn't pre-order.
