It's time for your usual dose of Friday fun - this week starring Voltron, Bill Hicks and a perfectly aligned ninesome of Muppety goodness!
Got a well-kept stack of old comic books lying around somewhere? Well, if this is anything to go by, it might not be such a bad idea to get a few of them valued. Of course, Atomic takes no responsibility suffered for the possible disappointment caused by finding out your entire collection is worth a total of $12, but if you do find treasure, don’t forget who told you to go look, ok?
We’ve got a trilogy of old-school gamey-cartoony movie news this week, and we’ll kick off with the increasing credibility of that pesky Voltron movie rumour. This is one of those situations: we grew up on the cartoon and we’re open to a movie, but if they stuff it up, we’ll complain for years.
As we will about yet another botched Doom effort. That 2005 “effort” may have featured The Rock, but we’re hoping that whoever’s involved in this latest reboot isn’t relying on a big star and 3D instead of, you know, decent writing and direction.
And finally, a Tomb Raider reboot also seems to be going ahead, sans Jolie – which, given her recent work, is probably a good thing.
Neil Gaiman does seem to have become the go-to guy for everything cool about sci-fi in recent years, but that doesn’t mean we’re not at least curious about his latest project. A trilogy of films based on a 16th century Chinese fantasy novel? Even the 3D doesn’t completely put us off.
From the odd-but-interesting things on the internet files, we could lose hours of our day just working out way through this rather detailed – and rather appropriately alien-slug-styled - mind map of the history of science fiction.
Less time-consuming, but most definitely much cuter, is MightyGodKing’s latest alignment chart. This time, it’s Muppets. Even the complete D&D virgins among us can’t help but smile…
And what would Friday Links be without a trailer? We’ve only got one this week – but it’s for the upcoming and very, very buzzy American: The Bill Hicks Story. We’re huge fans of the work of the late Mr Hicks, so we're looking forward to this one. If you’re not familiar with the man, we suggest - nay, demand - you drop everything else you had planned for the weekend and get learning (and laughing).
