New screenshots have been released showing off the next installment of DLC for Mass Effect 2, and it seems to be closer than you might think.
With Dragon Age being so last week and all, we can’t help but turn our attention back to Mass Effect 2. While the Bioware hype machine seems to have been focused on back-patting metacritic style, someone has still been able to let some new Mass Effect 2 screenshots loose into the twitterverse.
The screens are from the upcoming DLC for the game, Arrival. Not only does this give us the all too rare excuse to use an ABBA album cover* on the Atomic website, it is the first of two rumoured DLC packages that bridge the gap between Mass Effect 2 and the upcoming Mass Effect 3.
Not only was Mass Effect 2 one of our favourite games of 2010, its DLC has been generally excellent, especially the most recent Lair of the Shadow Broker, which managed to introduce some pretty significant happenings in the Mass Effect Universe while providing entertaining gameplay and a somewhat significant plot twist.
Little is known about Arrival. Speculation is that the title refers to the arrival on earth of the Reapers, the ancient alien race whose return to earth is the subject of Mass Effect 3. There is also speculation that it will have a different protagonist to Shepherd, which has seemed to quieten down since Bioware released the screenshots, two of which clearly show the male variant of the game’s protagonist.
It does seem that the shots (in chronological order below) are showing a countdown of some sort, maybe to an announcement event or maybe even a release date. Thanks to a UK retailer that has since pulled the listing, the best bet is that the DLC is due on the 29th of March, giving us a little time to wrap up affairs in Kirkwall before heading back to the Normandy 2 for more intergalactic shenanigans.
*Because it has a bitching 70's helicopter, we swear thats the only reason!
