Relic's Space Marine - Chaos come again

The upcoming Space Marine shooter gets a new faction, and an updated release date. Surely Relic can restore our love for THQ?

We're suddenly a little gun-shy about getting excited about games. Blame Homefront if you will, but it suddenly seems like a bad idea to be looking forward to any game too much. But when it comes to Relic's Space Marine title...

We just can't help it. It's like we're genetically predisposed to love anything with power armour - paint that armour in the noble colours of Warhammer 40,000's Ultramarines chapter, and we just can't help ourselves.

And that's why this news has us cautiously excited. THQ's just announced that the forces of Chaos are hanging around in the shadows of the game's conflict. In addition to Orks and an array of Orky vehicles, we've just learned we'll also be taking on Renegade Militia, Traitor Marines, Psykers and more.

Even better news is that game's release date has solidified into some time in August (on all platforms), which isn't too far away at all. And, we learnt this week that we've got some hands on time coming up on the 1st of April. So we'll let you guys know what we think soon after.

Man, I want this to be good... check out our Engine Room on the game here.

It seems that everyone's jumped on the hate Homefront bandwagon. If it's not Call of Duty or Battlefield then it must be crap?
It was the last Battlefield and Call of Duty releases that had put me off buying anymore FPS games. But I read between the lines of the whinny BS posts about Homefront, and read the positive reviews on gameplay and decided to get it anyway. So glad I did.
Everyone is already talking up BF3 solely from watching 'gameplay' trailers and seem to have forgotten all the issues that previous ones have had, and still continue to have...

Wasn't too fond of either of those games when they came out, either :) But Bad Company 2 has come along way. Picked up some good stuff for our Game or the Year poll last year, and deservedly so - I really think it's the best online FPS on the market.

As to Homefront... well, I didn't pay for it, but still feel ripped off :)

Cleanse the alien, the mutant, the heretic.

We've got them all it seems. I certainly would get tired of smashing Orks eventually.

Rion, only in death does duty end, and if smashing Orks is your duty...

I shall pray unto the Emperor for his forgiveness in my lack of fortitude in our sacred duty. Gratitude for your words Chaplain.

Judging by the screenies and trailers I've seen so far, they should have used this game engine to make the damned film!!!

Hawkeye, you really need to learn to hide the fact that you're doing happy-wees when you write. That second paragraph just let it all hang out :-)

Multiplayer? 'Some may question your right to destroy ten billion people. But those who understand realise that you have no right to let them live.'

Co-op? 'He who stands with me... shall be my brother.'

I want this game to be good too, I have been following it for ages. Sadly the game footage i've seen has looked shallow and they have narrowed the scope of the game as well. With the amount of hack and slash and non tactical combat this game is demoing to me it is starting to look like a God of war or Darksiders type game with a 40k skin. I hope I'm wrong.

Come on Relic. You can do it. Love my warhammer. Relic have consistently out excellent games in recent years. The one thing I am wary of is that this title will alos be aimed at consoles. But that doesnt necessarily make that a bad thing if handled properly.

@pinecoffin - 4 hours of SP (inconsistent and derivative in places) gameplay is not endearing. But still if you like then thats fine.

@Hawkeye - BFBC2 has come a long way since release. I installedd MOH again last night and started playing through the campaign again and I am enjoying it. Helps that I know where a lot of the trigger bugs are now and I can avoid them. I also got a tip to disable all antivirus stuff during the install process and it also seems to be helping with avoiding some bugs. Interesting. I then played 2 rounds of MP and enjoyed it as well. Its is a good looking game and the wepaons have a nice solid feel to them.

And its a shame about Homefront. I know you Atomic were looking forward to it and that the limited stuff you had access to prior to release wouldve looked good.

Yeah i'm a HUGE fan of WH40k, used to table-top it, not so keen on what they did in DOW2, where you can no longer build bases etc, it's kind of a diferrent game, i still like it though, anyway, I REALLY looking forward to this game.

I'm ABSOLUTELY sick to death of Steam and GFWL, I buy every frigging game i have, all 317 games, now i have to login to steam and sometimes even GFWL just to play FRIGGING single-player WTF! all for the privilege of paying these nub's about $90

P.S: I don't have a problem with THQ, what is the problem with THQ?
