The game's not even out yet, and it already seems to be picking up accolades from all corners. This time: it's the film community giving it a nod.
We’ve been hearing for a while about how cinematic Rockstar’s upcoming detective romp L.A. Noire feels, and, having seen the various trailers, we don’t disagree.
And as we discovered today, neither do the real cinema types, with L.A. Noire being the first game ever to be officially selected to be part of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
In making the selection, Geoff Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of the festival has called L.A. Noire ‘nothing less than groundbreaking’ and an ‘invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity and immersion.’
All of that is high praise indeed, but what this means is that as part of the film festival – started nearly 10 years ago by Robert De Niro and friends – Rockstar will be presenting an exclusive preview and live demonstration of the game, as well as a Q&A session centred around the crossover between gaming and filmmaking. It’s all part of the Tribeca Talks series section of the festival and will be kicking off on Monday, April 25th.
And let’s not forget the fancy logo that Rockstar now get to put on all their marketing material – nice work indeed, if you can get it. We just hope the game itself up to all the hype.
