Friday Linky Links

It may be April Fools Day, but we are pretty sure todays links are all at least partly legit. Maybe. Doctor Who, Thor and Star Wars abound!

Before we start: a disclaimer. It’s April 1st. That means any or all of the linked may be total rubbish. We like to think we’ve done a reasonable job of rooting out the real stuff, but we cannot be held responsible for the prankiness of others.

We’re going to kick off with trailers this week – and in particular this one for the Season 6 premiere of Doctor Who, which we’re very much looking forward to, given our stupid enjoyment of Matt Smith and all things Steven Moffat.

There’s also a new clip from Kenneth Bragnah’s Thor, which is shaping up to be potentially pretty decent. And while we’re on Thor, it’s been confirmed that the film will feature what is surely one of our favourite characters here at Atomic HQ. That’s right: Hawkeye will be making an appearance. Not our Hawkeye, we assume, as he’s way too busy with his many Atomic duties, but we’re going to take it as a personal shout-out anyway.

In other movie news, it’s looking like Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad favourite and successful CV mind-melder – Malcolm in the Middle was only five years ago, and yet... – will be playing a villain in the upcoming Total Recall reboot. Of course, the question of why we need a Total Recall still lingers over the entire project, but we can only bring you the news we have, people, and that seems to be that every 80’s movie you liked ever is going to be rebooted sometime in the next few years.

But speaking of Arnold Schwarzengger, who doesn’t seem to be attached to Total Recall Redux, this rumour that he’s working with Stan Lee on a The Governator comic (and potentially TV) series does seem extremely April Fools friendly, only it broke two days ago, so make of that what you will.

Super is being billed as the next big superhero-but-not comedy, and while we’re not fully convinced that it will be as awesome as it thinks it will be, we did enjoy this interview with director James Gunn.

It seems like every week these days someone announces a film project that fills us simultaneously with delight and fear. This week, that film project is the confirmed film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. Admit it, you feel it too.

We don’t know about you, but we do sometimes wonder what the world would have been like if Star Wars had been an 80’s TV series instead of a 70’s blockbuster movie with two sequels and three prequels and all the rest. Well, now we at least know what the credits of that TV series would have been like. Woohoo for the internet!

And finally for this week, we’re going to talk about art. Yes, as in paintings and stuff. As a warm-up, we’re going to point you to the 20th Anniversary cover of UK Esquire magazine, designed by the creative people at Rockstar Games. And then for the main course, we’re serving up this exhibition featuring art bases on the films of Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers. If you live in New York, you can go see it for real. If not – just check out the pictures. We like them.

Dessert? That’s up to you guys.

Not in your "Quentin vs. Coens" link is the art of Tim Doyle from the exhibition:
