Shattered Horizon: now in single-player

Trailer: Futuremark's shooter gets a whole mess of new content and single-player mode. Check out all the zero-gravity action.

When we say Futuremark, you probably think of their range of Atomic-approved benchmarking tools. But you should also remember that back in 2009 they released Shattered Horizon, a futuristic zero-gravity multiplayer FPS that still has quite the active little community.

This week, they’re taking Shattered Horizon one step further and releasing The Last Stand – an expansion pack that adds all sorts of cool features to the game, as well as the ability to play the game in single-player mode for the first time.

They haven’t quite released a standalone single-player campaign, so much as introduced a mode whereby you can replace other players with bots which, as Jaakko Haapasalo, Futuremark Game Studio’s director puts it, makes it “the perfect way for new players to learn the game, practice to improve or just play for fun.” It’s all very flexible, too: you can select your difficulty level and how many bots you’ll play against, as well as switching in or adding real players at any point.

In order to promote the release, Steam have Shattered Horizon selling for a measly $10 bucks this week (that’s US dollars – and with the exchange rate what it is, we’d suggest it’s the perfect time to pick up a pretty impressive bargain). Futuremark have also released a new trailer, demonstrating all the new features The Last Stand is bringing with it, which you can check out below.

And if anyone is looking for us, we’ll be checking out what happens to bullets in zero gravity. Back someday!
