Get your hands on Red Faction: Battlegrounds

Too impatient to wait until June for Red Faction: Armageddon? Then you can check out the arcade action of Battlegrounds right this second.

It was just the other day that we first introduced you to Red Faction: Battlegrounds, the arcade game that comes with the Collector’s Edition of Red Faction: Armageddon, available for pre-order now from EB Games.

And today, we’ve learned a whole lot more about it, including – perhaps most importantly – the fact that it’s available right now on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

Yes – right now.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds is, according to the folks at THQ, a multiplayer-focused vehicular combat game in tanks, combat walkers and fast-attack vehicles go nuts on – and under – Mars. Danny Bilson, TQH Core Games VP, describes it as perfect for everyone from ‘hardcore Red Faction fans to casual racers that just want to blow stuff up’. And who doesn’t like blowing stuff up, honestly?

Battlegrounds will also give players the opportunity to unlock exclusive Red Faction: Armageddon content and weapons long before anyone else – including such toys as a rapid-fire smart rifle with heat-seeking microchip-powered ammunition, or Darius Mason’s Nano Forge and weapons arsenal.

Of course, it’s not just about getting a head start on other Armageddon players. There are quite a few game modes to check out, which all let you pit yourself against three other players either locally or online. And did we mention there were vehicles? And blowing stuff up?
