Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation is coming

Treyarch announces a second DLC for their record-breaking hit of a game. And - surprise! - there will be zombies...

Is there anything that zombies don’t make better, at least for a few minutes? Last year, we would have said no – that the mere presence of zombies was enough to improve anything and everything, simply because zombies were awesome.

But the thing is that like all supernatural fads, there comes a point where you just get tired of the bad grey make-up and the brain chewing. And thus, when we heard Mark Lamia, Treyarch’s Studio Head, describe the second Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC as taking things to ‘a whole new level’ for zombie fans, we just couldn’t get that excited.

Which does, however, bring us to the meat of the matter. Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation will be the games second DLC, and will be released on Xbox Live on May 3rd. The pack will feature four new maps, each with their own unique and challenging gameplay, and something simply described as Call of the Dead, which is a ‘Zombies experience like none before it’.

Given that the first Black Ops DLC broke all sorts of records when it was downloaded 1.4 million times in its first 24 hours of release, we’re sure that Escalation will be a similarly huge hit for Treyarch and Activision. And in case it isn’t right off the bat, the weekend following the launch will see players worldwide offered Double XP for three whole days from May 6th.

In the meantime, if anyone has any useful suggestions for nudging this zombie fad out of the spotlight, we’d love to hear them.

TBH, the multiplayer of this game has become stale for me. I only bought the DLC for the Ascension zombie map, because its awesome fun to play with mates, and figure out all the cool easter eggs :)

Bring on BF3.

Does it change the single player campaign? Because I haven't played it.

I just don't get the fascination with zombies. I felt that we should have been given a choice in the first DLC to purchase with and without the zombie map (obviously at a different price).

I was pissed off when I realised that as part of the first DLC they changed the weight of the Hometown map…..since getting the first DLC I have NEVER had a match on the Hometown map. I mostly play domination but I did play CTF, Demolition and TDM for a few days to see if the map appeared in those but it never appeared. So I paid money for 4 MP maps (+ Zombie map) to then lose one existing MP map?

So I wonder if this time we will lose one or two of the existing maps??? I’ll certainly be thinking twice about getting this new DLC.

I agree with you about the zombie map, in fact, about the whole zombie mode. It's just not my thing, and doesn't fit with the game. But seriously, losing Hometown could only be a good thing. Whoever designed that map, and its spawn points, should be drawn and quartered.
