Mass Effect could become an MMO...

Bioware executive producer admits massively mutliplayer may be the best direction for the future of the Mass Effect Universe.

It would be nice to have the kind of industry pull that Game Informer has in the US. We get to chat a lot with local PR types, but GI gets to hobnob all the time with the real deal, and make some stupidly big scoops in the process. This time they've gotten BioWare's Casey Hudson, exec producer on the Mass Effect talking about the future of the franchise, as VG24/7 recently reported.

And that future might be massive.

“A lot of people say that they want to see an MMO, I think that kind of makes sense for this universe,” he said.

“Part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving…

“I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn’t it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take a ship to Omega? That makes sense.”

Yes. Yes, it does make sense, and yes, it would be amazing to be able to live on the Citadel. Sign us up for any Mass Effect MMO shenanigans, thanks. And with BioWare releasing Mass Effect 3 later this year, and then hopefully finally giving us Knights of the Old Republic, it would seem like perfect timing to get the teams working together on an ME MMO.

Even the acronym sounds perfect!

Quarian? i would have thought Asari :P he he. ME could easily slot into an MMO. As long as they dont screw around with ME3 or leave plot lines open ended just so they can do the MMO i'll be happy.

I agree with Martyr don't stuff up the plot for ME3. Develop the MMORPG I would def give it a go.

Makes sense considering ME was supposed to be a trilogy, so once the story is wrapped up you could explore the universe in another way in an MMO. Add to that the fact that BioWare will have a team experienced with making A scifi MMO thanks to StarWars TOR.
Mass Effect being BioWare and EA's IP this could be a massive financial success story for them if they go ahead with it.

I will say tho if EA does publish for BioWare on the MMo i owuld like to see them step back and give BioWare freedom, EA has not made a successful MMO from numberous attempts.
With IP's that you couldn't possibly fuck up.
EA somehow failed a Sims MMO, and thats a perfect game for an MMO world.
Also screwed up Warhammer which is a hugely successful gaming IP.
They need to get their sticky fingers out of the kitchen and let the devs do what they do in their own time.

If they made a STALKER mmo - I'd be there instantly. As long as the voice acting was improved of course.
