New RAGE trailer - The Dead City

Trailer: The latest trailer of id Games' RAGE shows off whole swathes of gameplay, including some supremely awesome weapons.

We've seen a lot of apocalytpic wastelands in gaming recently. Gearbox's Borderlands presented us with a wasted world full of high octane savages and a cartoon sensibility, while Bethesda's recent Fallout games have taken place in post-nuclear versions of the USA.

Now, it's id's turn to show us what the end of the world looks like... and we think they've got the best apocalypse yet.

RAGE's setting is kind of similar to both the above games, with vehicles, survivors emerging from underground Arks, and a wasteland packed with mutants, but the engine and gameplay that comes with the setting is pure id. All action, all shooting, all gibbing.

This latest RAGE trailer shows off portions of a mission to retreive an item from a location called the Dead City. And it's pretty, well, dead...

The engine looks great. The game looks like an ID game - thousands of monsters that are sectacularly detailed and clearly run-shoot-run shotgun styled combat.

But it leaves me with 2 rather dissapointing thoughts. 1 it looks like a very tipical, not story driven shooter of the Doom, Quake and Unreal Tornement ilk that I thought we had progressed passed and more dissapointingly (the first point being a very personal complaint there are a lot of people that love that style of game)MUCH more dissapointingly WHERES THE GORE ID??? All ID games featured gore in buckets!!!

I imagine gore will be there as an option, but it's something that they won't be showing off in trailers.

Seemed pretty gory to me! Limbs fly off, there's at least one decapitation. Sure, there's nothing akin to Fallout 3's VATS assisted head-shot slo-mo...but it looks like ID's going for a more "realistic" feel with their blood-letting (as far as you can in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic, mutant infested setting, I guess).
