Call of the Dead gets horror pedigree

Trailer: Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation gets the zombie treatment, and Treyarch have got all the big guns involved.

Now, we may have come across all skeptical in our original story about the Call of the Dead zombie level that Treyarch are including in the next lot of Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC, Escalation, but today we’ve been given some news that might have us reconsidering.

Somewhat. We’re still not sure zombies really are all that exciting, but we’ll concede that they can be when done well.

And it definitely looks like Treyarch are doing all they can with their zombie effort, what with the voice talent they’ve managed to get involved. Not only have they nabbed the current darling of zombiedom – The Walking Dead’s Michael Rooker – but they’ve also got Machete’s Danny Trejo and Buffy the Vampire Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Geller.

Which is impressive and all, but not exactly mind-shattering, until you throw Robert Englund into the mix. The wee folk among us may not know who that is, but we assure you that as Freddy Kruger in the legendary Nightmare on Elm Street series, he spent much of the 1980’s warping the minds of impressionable teenagers everywhere.

And then there’s George A. Remiro, who pops up in the story as himself. Remiro is the man behind such zombie classics as Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead. Treyarch have dubbed Call of the Dead (which suddenly doesn’t seem so cleverly named) as their tribute to him, as the man who ‘truly defined the zombie genre and whose incredible work has been such an inspiration to our team.’

To whet your appetite, check out the official trailer below.

Escalation, complete with Call of the Dead and four multiplayer maps, is still due to drop on May 3rd for Xbox Live users. Fingers crossed that network doesn’t befall any sort of PSN-like disaster between now and then…

Love it!

Love the tagline at the end; "There's a zombie killer in all of us."

Just like the "There's a soldier in all of us" TVC that caused a few hairs to ruffle;
