Blizzard's Mike Morhaime says a Diablo 3 beta is coming soon, and that the game's release won't be too long after.
May the Gods of gaming bless investor calls. You often get more info on what's happening at a company through these phone calls between the leaders of the industry and their paying investors than official release channels. In a recent Activision investor call, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime broke some interesting news about the upcoming Diablo 3.
First up, in theory the game could be in beta stage within a couple of months. He stated Blizzard's aiming for a third quarter 2011 public beta, and that the game was already entering a heavy internal testing phase.
What's more, everyone's very keen to see the game actually on the shelves this year. But it's by no means certain, as reported by the MTV Multiplayer blog.
"On the 'Diablo 3' front, I'm pleased to report that we began internal, company-wide testing last week. The game is looking great and we are currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing. The development team is working hard to try to launch 'Diablo 3' this year, but I want to be clear. We do not have an official release date or window yet."
Just imagine, we could clicking our way to glorious victory any month now!
