Gamers. We've always thought of ourselves as a charitable bunch, and now EB have confirmed our suspicions...
Now, before any of you feel the need to mention it, we are well aware that this will be the second time we’re saying nice things about EB Games on this site in the space of less than a week. We’re a little confused about it too, don’t worry.
But we’ve made aware that the game retailer we all love to hate has been up to even more good, this time in the form of getting their customers and well-wishers to raise an impressive $475,000 for Starlight Day 2011. Yes, even we can’t ignore charity.
EB Games reached that amount by collecting donations and holding in-store competitions between April 27th and May 3rd, and today they’ve released a statement in which their National Brand and Marketing Manager, Debra McGrath, said “a massive thank you to all our generous customers that donated or traded during Starlight Week.” She acknowledged that the result was “simply amazing and could not have been achieved without local community support right across Australia.”
Awww…
The $475,000 makes up a pretty big part of the Starlight Foundations $2.2 million goal for this year's campaign, and goes towards making the lives of critically sick kids just a little bit better. If you didn’t manage to get into an EB store during their fundraising effort, and this news has made you feel all warm and fuzzy, you can still donate by visiting the Starlight Foundation site directly here.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled negativity and cynicism.
