The annual gaming art showcase announces its winners ahead of a big fancy showing at E3. We can't wait...
As most of you out there already know, a great gaming experience isn’t just about the gameplay. Of course, the mechanics, nuts and bolts are critical to a good game, but there’s nothing better than a game that plays really well and manages to look incredible at the same time. It's not just about the graphcis engine or power either - it's about the care and effort that game designers put into the look of their games, and the sometimes stunning results.
And we’re not the only ones who think so. Into The Pixel is an exhibition that selects some of the best gaming art from the past year for display in the Concourse Foyer of E3 – where thousands of gaming nutters will get to see it in high-resolution.
The exhibition is put on by the good people of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), but it has the support of a few big names in the art world as well. Glen Philips, Senior Project Specialist & Consulting Curator, Department of Architecture and Contemporary Art, Getty Research Institute says it ‘showcases the incredible creativity, skill and artistic talent that pervades in the video game industry’.
This years exhibition features works from some of gamings biggest names, including Bioware (with works from Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2), Valve (Alien Swarm), Big Fish Games (Mystery Case Files: 13th Skull, Drawn 3 and Drawn: Dark Flight), SCEA (God of War III) and Sony (Legend of Norrath), as well as a whole bunch more.
Some of the artwork is pretty damn stunning, and you can check it out here - or wrangle yourself a ticket to E3 to get an even better look…)
