New content for long-time players; open door for new players. What’s not to love?
Age of Conan came out mid-2008 to a rocky start; though we enjoyed the first few levels, server issues reared their ugly heads and hindered our experience somewhat.
Time heals all wounds however, and these issues have largely been cleared up – with a recent announcement adding icing to the cake that brings the game up to 2.6, and also announces a free-to-play version of the game called Age of Conan: Unchained.
While a free account in Age of Conan: Unchained doesn't give full access to everything on offer it does give four playable classes, a handful of dungeons and zones, and 50% bank space. Registration is all that's required to sign up and give it a go; a monthly fee to become a premium subscriber enables access to the entire game.
In a move similar to Team Fortress 2's free-to-play model, the developers have introduced an in-game store where rare or exceptional items can be purchased with real-life money, supporting those who choose to play for free.
Also announced is Update 2.6, which changes balance and levelling for dungeons and playfields. Head to the Age of Conan: Unchained website to register for a free account, and check out the latest trailer showing recent gameplay below.
