Friday Linky Fun

Another Friday, another round of Torchwoody, Hobbitty, Duney, Batmany links to finish off your week. And then freedom!

We have to hand it to Peter Jackson and his hairy-footed band of moviemakers – there are not many movies out there that manage to make headlines just by releasing a single photograph of some bearded dudes in cloaks. This first shot of dwarves Ori, Nori and Dori from The Hobbit is doing just that – and making the internet very happy in the process.

Also making news this week is the release of the first trailer for the upcoming Batman: Year One, a DC Universe Animated movie that’s hoping to keep the Batman audience nice and patient while we wait for The Dark Knight Rises. It’s working so far, but July 2012 is a very, very long way away.

Coming much sooner to a cinema near you is Captain America: The First Avenger – and this week saw the release of two new featurettes that continue to leave us hopeful that this will be a perfect comic book movie to finish off the US Summer blockbuster season.

And on the small screen, Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres in the US this weekend. The very English show has gotten itself all tied up with a US cable channel for this season, and we’re very curious to see the results. In the meantime though, here’s a quick guide to everything you might need to know in order to enjoy Miracle Day… should it ever air in Australia *cough*.

And in related news, it looks like plot details for ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’, the next episode in this season of Doctor Who – and one that will hopefully answer many of the questions raised in the recent mid-season finale – have leaked onto the internet. If you don’t mind spoilers, check them out here. If you do, please don’t click on the link. For your own sanity.

In more TV news, US cable network TNT has already renewed its latest sci-fi-flavoured project, Falling Skies, for a second season. It’s nice to know that US television hasn’t completely abandoned the struggling genre, isn’t it?

Speaking of which, people will probably be discussing Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, and whether or not it got a fair go, for years to come. In the meantime, fans will be pleased to know that the story will, like so many other Wehdon creations, be continuing in comic book form. Check out this interview with one of the writers involved.

And finally, if you’re currently sitting in your cube, waiting for 5pm to roll around and trying desperately to resist the urge for a mid-afternoon sugar hit, then perhaps you shouldn’t check out this recreation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Everyone else will surely love it.
