Friday Linky Links

Last week it was kittens. This week it’s puppies. And also: Comic-Con, Community, Conan, Cowboys and more…

Another week in July, another stack of comic-con related happenings in the pop-culture world. And to kick off, a moment that may melt many a heart. We may seem like cynical folks here at Atomic, but even we could not deny that this was possibly the cutest photo moment ever to be captured and put on the internet.

For those of you more interested in news than cute moments, our own personal favourite bit of news from Comic-Con this year was the casting of Michael K. Williams – better known as The Wire’s enigmatic gunslinger, Omar – as a teacher on the next season of Community. There is no way this can possibly not be awesome.

Another event worth checking out from Comic-Con is this interview with Joss Whedon, in which he discusses Buffy, The Avengers and everything in between. And once you’re done there, you can check out the first teaser trailer for the movie, fresh of the interwires.

Also doing a fair bit of press at this pop-culture fest, but falling into a very different basket, were the folks behind the upcoming Conan the Barbarian re-boot. Check out what Conan himself, Jason Momoa had to say here, and then click here for some thoughts from anti-heroine Rose McGowan. Our main takeaway: this movie has more hair than Hollingworth had when he started as Atomic editor.

Cowboys and Aliens hasn’t even opened yet, but already some of its cast are talking about a possible sequel. It’s a little difficult to tell whether this is good news or bad, but we’re still liking the way that the first movie is gathering buzz without yet annoying us in any way, so we’ll go with a tentative yay!\

And speaking of sequels, it’s official: fans of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek might want to find something else to do for a while as  Star Trek II has been delayed. Being released in its place? GI Joe 2. Yeah, we know...

Finally for this week, we’re going back to Comic-Con for a look at the next teaser trailer for the second half of Season Six of Doctor Who. Mid-season trailers may seem a little like overkill, but given where we were left a couple of months ago, and the name of the first episode back, we’re quite liking these. A lot.

Now, have another puppy:
